YORKTON — Dr. Brass School in Yorkton has initiated a mental health support pilot program for its students, working alongside the Sunrise Health Authority.

Dubbed the Mental Health Capacity Building Initiative (MHCB), this collaborative venture between Dr. Brass School and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is geared towards strengthening mental health and wellness among students, families, and local communities.

The pilot was dicussed at the Good Spirit School Division’s board of education meeting on April 25.

With backing from SHA, and crucial support from the Ministries of Health and Education, MHCB is rolling out a range of programs, assistance, and resources to tackle mental health challenges head-on and break down barriers to seeking help.

Driving the initiative are two key figures: the MHCB Promoter, tasked with delivering tailored programs to kids, teens, and families, and the MHCB Coordinator, overseeing the project's smooth operation and ensuring its goals are met.

During Mental Health Week from May 1-7, 2023, Dr. Brass MHCB Program took centre stage, actively spreading awareness about mental health and distributing valuable resources to the community under the theme "My Story."
