YORKTON – The Western Development Museum celebrated their 75th anniversary April 2.
"April 2, 1949 was when the provincial government enabled a legislative act to establish the Western Development Museum," told Carla Madsen, Manager at the Western Development Museum, in an interview with SaskToday.ca.
Madsen said there was rope-making demonstrations by the Yorkton Thrersherman's Club, a seek and find activity, cupcakes, refreshments and other activites for museum-goers to celebrate the anniversary.
As for the turnout, Madsen said it was "excellent."
"We're seeing a lot of new faces that we are welcoming here today. We're hoping that we get a lot more this afternoon," said Madsen.
To commemorate the milestone, a 75-year-memory picture collage was on display in the education room as well as a slide show that talked about the museum's history and featured photos from throughout the museum's years in the city.
The museum is currently open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. on weekends. In June the museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
