Arts Up exhibit on display at the Assiniboia & District Library

This exhibit is on display until April 30 as part of the Arts Up partnership.

ASSINIBOIA - Art created by students at the Assiniboia Composite High School will be on display at the Assiniboia and District Public Library. This event is sponsored by the Assiniboia and District Arts Council.

Teacher Raine Gray explained, “My Studio Art 20 class completed a research project on an Indigenous artist and then either recreated one of that artist’s pieces or followed their style to make something of their own.”

Jiya Italia was inspired by Ontario Indigenous artist Betty Albert. “I combined two pictures of hers into mine. The woman in the painting symbolizes power.” Jiya moved to Saskatchewan from India nine months ago. Creating art is her hobby. Her family was very proud that her picture was selected for the Arts Up poster on display around town.

Preston Ruzicka thought his Star Wars inspired drawing was too big at first and it took quite a long time to finish it, but viewers will appreciate the effort he put into the final product. “Studio Art is a nice class,” he said, “compared to math for instance. I can be more creative versus having to do everything by the book.”

This exhibit is on display until April 30 as part of the Arts Up partnership between the Assiniboia and District Arts Council and the Assiniboia and District Public Library.
