School District 60 has released video of the moment when a juvenile moose smashed into the school board office in Fort St. John this week.

The moose broke through the foyer door separating the two wings of the building around 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2019, shaking district staff up from their desks. Security cameras caught the juvenile moose breaking in from the east entrance off 105 Avenue.

“We all came out and saw this moose stumble in the glass, and then wander toward the board room,” Superintendent Stephen Petrucci said on Wednesday.

Most staff were able to get out of the building, while 911 and conservation officers were called. There were a couple dozen staff working at the time, and some had to keep inside their offices while the moose wandered through the hallways.

Once outside, Petrucci said he opened the back door to the Learning Services wing and was able to woo the moose out of the building.

“I kind of called it like a dog and it came out,” he said.

The incident last around five minutes. No staff were hurt, and the door was promptly repaired.
