Canora Cobras claim banner with impressive victory

U11 Cobras complete successful season by defeating the Moosomin Blue Rangers in both ends of a two-game total goal series to win the E banner

CANORA — The U11 Canora Cobras hockey team capped off a successful season and won the E banner for their division by defeating the Moosomin Blue Rangers in both ends of a two-game total goal series.

In the first game on March 20 in Moosomin, the first period was dead even as the teams battled to a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes. The second period ended up deciding the game, as the Cobras outscored their hosts 6-0 on their way at an 8-4 victory. Zarin Godhe was the offensive leader for Canora with four goals and an assist. Yuri Olynyk chipped in with two goals and an assist, and Caden Doogan added the other goal. Priah Wolkowski also contributed an assist.

“Our players played really well in Game 1, which put us in great shape going into Game 2 back in Canora,” said Cobras Coach Jeff Sznerch.

Game 2 hit the ice on March 21, where the Cobras had the opportunity to wrap up the E banner with a win on home ice. It was a tight 1-0 game after 20 minutes, with Canora clinging to the slim lead. But for the second game in a row, the Cobras sniped six goals in the second period on their way to a 7-1 series-clinching victory. Zarin Godhe continued his hot hand with five goals and added an assist. Yuri Olynyk had a goal and two assists, while Ashton Strelioff also scored a goal. Also contributing assists were: Karter Shukin, Priah Wolkowski and Cameron Sznerch.

Mason Reine was the winning goalie for the Cobras in both games.

“The Cobras picked up right where we left off in Game 1 to win the banner! The kids played really well, as a team and really dominated the games in this series. We are so proud of their accomplishments and I know they were quite excited to win a banner to display in our rink.

“The coaching staff would like to congratulate the team for a great season and thank them for all the hard work that was done week over week in practice which led them to achieve success on the score board and also as excellent developing young hockey players. This is a great group of kids and it was a pleasure to be able to coach them once again. We wish all of our players well during the off season and look forward to being back in the rink in the fall of 2022,” concluded Sznerch.
