CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls from March 27 to April 4, some of which included:
- three 911 Act calls,
- two assaults,
- three failing to comply with probation,
- one false alarm,
- two frauds,
- one lost and found,
- one Liquor Act call,
- one Mental Health Act call,
- two mischiefs,
- one offender management,
- four other provincial calls,
- 11 traffic offenses,
- two traffic collisions,
- two uttering threats,
- two wellbeing checks and
- three prisoners.
Another fight over snow
On March 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a snow dispute between two business owners in Canora.
The caller reported the neighboring business had moved snow onto his property and he was going to handle it himself if police did not assist. The matter was investigated and it was determined the snow that was not moved on the caller’s property and that no offence occurred.
Dog poop leads to charge
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a threats complaint on March 29.
Police learned a property owner was upset with dog poop in his yard, which led to threats being made to shoot a dog and the dog’s owner that had come onto his yard. The property owner was charged with uttering threats.
Music cause of foul language claim
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a foul language call on March 30 at a business in Canora.
The caller reported he was sworn at twice by a male from a neighbouring business. Police learned the male who allegedly swore at the caller was not responsible and that loud music coming from a vehicle was the source of the foul language.
Drunken fight
On March 31, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a 911 call for a disturbance at a Canora residence. Police attended and learned that two people had been drinking alcohol and got into a fight with each other. Both were arrested and charged with assault.
Mental health problem
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a call on April 1 where a man was described as being agitated and in distress inside a residence. Police apprehended the man under the Mental Health Act and he was taken to the hospital.
Property disputes not an RCMP concern
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received two calls to mediate property disputes between landlords and tenants on April 4. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP are regularly contacted to assist in these disputes.
The Office of Residential Tenancies (ORT) is an agency independent of government that provides information about the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants in Saskatchewan. When landlords and tenants cannot resolve disputes on their own, both have the right to ask the ORT to make rulings and settle the dispute. The ORT is independent, free from outside influence, and impartially decides applications without favour for either landlords or tenants.
