INVERMAY - Congratulations to the junior and senior volleyball teams of Invermay for displaying remarkable performances during the volleyball season. The junior girls won many games, including first place in the Sturgis tournament, while showing great teamwork and co-operation.
Despite having a small number of players on the team, the junior boys played hard and won many sets during the season, a close tiebreaker versus Preeceville being one of their highlights.
The senior girls team made noticeable improvement in performance during the season, while displaying teamwork and sportsmanship. Tournament success was a highlight, including reaching the semifinal round in the Melville tournament
This year’s Invermay School cross-country team included: Lexi Grona, Morgan Graham, Jakob MacLean, Brielle Enge, Karlie MacDonald, Bennett Carlson, Paisley Bosovich, Keith Ferenal, Damien Koturbash, Hanna Enge, Addison Enge, Kashton MacLean, Michael Mesias and Angelo Ferenal. The coaches were Dalice Nelson and Cheng Teh. This year the cross-country athletes were able to participate in meets at Cherrydale Golf Course on Sept, 15, Kamsack on Sept. 22, Saltcoats Autumn Summit on Sept. 29 and the District Meet at Saltcoats on Oct. 5. Thank you to our parent volunteers that assisted with driving, supervising at the meets and participating in the walk-throughs with the athletes.
Invermay School experienced Education Week from Oct. 17 -21. Oct. 17 was Bus Driver Appreciation Day where we thanked bus drivers for their hard work. Thank you to Kailey, Cheryl, Floyd, Glenda, and Bud.
Grades 9-12 students attended the GSSD (Good Spirit School Division) Career Exploration Fair on Oct. 18. The kindergarten to Grade 8 students had the fun experience of buddy reading.
Oct. 20 was an especially fun and busy day with the theme “Dress Up As Your Parents Day” and many of the students were really creative with their outfits.
From Dance Saskatchewan, we invited Lawrence Roy who taught our students the history of hoop dancing and how to create hoop animals. All had a wonderful time with him! The day continued with much more fun including a free pizza lunch from the SRC and in the evening, an open house barbecue, scholastic book fair, and games in the gym. This was truly a blast, seeing everyone’s families come together and have fun.
To end Education Week, the students each created a unique paper airplane and ran them through five different test stations. It was an educational experiment, which allowed them to understand how the different planes functioned.
On Oct. 21-22, Michael Mesias, Elissa Karcha, and Cheng Teh (teacher) attended the SADD Provincial Conference held in Saskatoon at the Travelodge Hotel, the first such event since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Both Michael and Elissa had been selected members for Team SGI with their expenses paid by SADD. Many speakers impacted by the effects of drunk driving shared their experiences and views. Speakers included: Niall Schoefield, the Van de Vorst family, the parents of Quinn Stevenson, and many more. There were other speakers who represented the Saskatoon Police, the RCMP, SGI, and MADD.
Many of the presentations were impactful, informing, and persuading. Many of the students also experienced interactive activities which raised the awareness of the consequences of drunk driving.
We’d like to send out a big thank you to Invermay’s fire chief, Mark Eskra and firefighter Calista Jack for hosting an event exclusive to the kindergarten to Grade 2 students. Having the opportunity to try on the equipment and sit in the firetruck was an experience like no other for the kids. Mark Eskra presented Jhon Antonio with the Fire Chief of the Day certificate including a ride around the town in the pumper truck with Captain Kevin Todd. Way to go, Jhon!
Mom’s Pantry was a fundraiser held by the SRC. Top sellers each received a 10-second servery raid in return for their hard work. The winners were successful in taking treats, chips, drinks, and much more. Congratulations to: Bailey, Taelynn, Kasthon, Jakob, Dawsyn, April, and Jesse for your hard work.
