Rama rocks on Mother’s Day

The Concert and Dessert event was a tribute to Elvis Presley who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this year.

RAMA - A fantastic afternoon was held at the Rama RC Hall on Sunday, May 11, when the crowd was entertained by The Cadillac Kid (Elvis impersonator) with his son, Avery, as special guest performer.

The Concert and Dessert event was a tribute to Elvis Presley who would have celebrated his 90th birthday this year. The Cadillac Kid started the show with some of Elvis' earlier hits. Being Mother's Day, he decided to wear the jacket that his mother had sewn him for his first show.

The Cadillac Kid (Matt Fairbrother), has performed over 2,500 shows with crowds up to 20,000! It was a pleasure to have him return to Rama for a performance on Mother's Day Sunday. This was the second time at Rama as he and his son, Avery, had performed at a Canada Day Celebration on July 1, 2016.

Guests were ushered by Jasmin Kowalyshyn to their designated seats. She collected their tickets and entered all the mothers' names for the "Mother of the Year" draw. All mothers received a live carnation before leaving the event, which were donated by St. Anthony's Parish.

A beautiful potted plant donated by Young's Plant World (Yorkton) was won by Marie Kowalyshyn (Regina).

The show was divided into three sets. The first set was The Cadillac Kid singing many Elvis hits including his most popular early hits.

For the second set, special guest, Avery, entertained the audience with many popular songs from various artists. They enjoyed listening to and singing along with the many well-known songs. Avery has made several CDs displaying his many talents while playing both harmonica and guitar.

The Cadillac Kid then concluded the concert with the final sets of Elvis hits. He mingled amongst the crowd for several songs. He invited anyone who wished to sing with him on stage. Ashley (Canora) volunteered to take him up on that offer singing "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck".

He also sang a few requests including many for mothers. The crowd didn't tire of any of the Elvis songs. Some even got lucky when he tossed teddy bears or were serenated with Elvis scarves. He included a range of  Elvis hits along with gospel songs which were amongst Elvis' favorites.

The audience sang along while he did his fancy swings, shakes and moves as were done by Elvis. He concluded with Can't Help Falling in Love with You from Blue Hawaii, receiving a standing ovation!

After the concert, the 50/50 draw and "Mother of the Year " draws were made.

St. Anthony's Parish Ladies served strawberry shortcake, which was enjoyed by all.

A special thank you was expressed to Gord and Barb Broda (Prince Albert) who sponsored the show. Proceeds from the show will help with hall renovations.
