RCMP Report: Driver with Ontario warrants arrested in Sturgis

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle in Sturgis, and the driver of the vehicle had arrest warrants out of Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police was contacted and the driver was later released from custody.

Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to to 41 calls from June 28 to July 6, including an assault complaint in Buchanan. Police learned that a male assaulted another male following a dispute over property.

CANORA - The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 41 calls from June 28 to July 6, some of which included: two 911 Act calls, four assaults, one assault with a weapon, one assault causing bodily harm, one attempted murder, one breach of peace, one break-and-enter, one criminal harassment, one dangerous driving causing bodily harm, one disturbing the peace, one failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, one fraud, one Mental Health Act call, two mischiefs, three other provincial calls, three thefts, 17 traffic offenses, one wellbeing check and two prisoners.

Intense property dispute

On June 29, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to an assault complaint in Buchanan. Police learned that a male assaulted another male following a dispute over property. The incident was mediated and further police involvement was not required.

Wanted Ontario driver arrested

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP stopped a vehicle in Sturgis on July 1. The driver of the vehicle had arrest warrants out of Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police was contacted and the driver was later released from custody.

Double break-ins

On July 2 and July 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to separate break-and-enter complaints to the same residence on the 500 block of Highway Avenue East in Preeceville. Police continue to investigate.

Campground intoxicated assault

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a campsite at the Sturgis Campground for multiple disturbances and an assault complaint on July 2. Police attended and arrested an intoxicated female for assault.

Theft of ID and cash

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report on July 3 that identification and money was stolen from a purse in Stenen. Police continue to investigate.

Gas and dash

On July 5, the Gateway Co-op in Preeceville reported two vehicles had driven away without paying for fuel. The vehicles were described as a Red GMC Terrain and a Black Dodge Durango.
