United Church event combines good fun and good food

In addition to the fun and fellowship, approximately 100 dozen cookies and nearly 2,000 perogies were sold.

CANORA - For anyone looking for Christmas treats, the Canora United Church was the place to be during the Winter Lights Festival on Nov. 29 for the Cookie Walk and Frozen Perogy Sale.

The event was hosted by the United Church women, who made approximately 100 dozen cookies for visitors to enjoy for $15 per bag or $25 for two bags.

After paying the fee, each person received a bag and gloves. Then they were free to wander around and fill their bag(s) with whatever cookies they liked. Cookies were identified where there was any chance of allergies. Canora and area residents must have brought their appetites, because by the time the event wrapped up, organizers report there were only about two dozen cookies left over.

As is the case with almost local any event involving perogies, the frozen perogy sale also attracted brisk business. The final tally indicated that 23 bags of frozen perogies were sold. At seven dozen per bag, that works out to almost 2,000 perogies.
