Kamsack hockey teams applauded on Minor Hockey Day

Kamsack minor hockey teams celebrated Minor Hockey Day on Jan. 7 by playing their sport at the Broda Sportsplex.

KAMSACK — Minor Hockey Day was celebrated in Kamsack on Jan. 7 when six Kamsack teams plus a team that included several Kamsack players were on the ice.

The day began at 10 a.m. when the two teams of U7 (Under 7) players played one another, and then about an hour later the two U9 teams, dubbed Team Black and Team White played against each other.

At 1 p.m. the U11 team played Preeceville, and then at 4 p.m., the U13 team played Preeceville.

The day concluded with a game that began at 7 p.m. when the Highway 9 Predators, a team that included Kamsack district players, played Yorkton.

Minor Hockey Day gives the community the opportunity to see all the teams play in one day, said Jared Ruf, president of the Kamsack Minor Hockey Association.

In addition to the games, and the concession stand, the day included the sale of 50/50 tickets.

The Kamsack teams were pleased to be back at the Broda Sportsplex, beginning Dec. 20, Ruf said. Teams practice each Tuesday and Thursday.

“It’s nice to be back in the rink, which looks great.”

Ruf said that plans are for a member of the Yorkton Terriers to be a guest coach of the Kamsack teams on Jan. 19.

Zac Rakochy of Canora, a goalie coach for the Yorkton Terriers, has agreed to come to Kamsack every two weeks to coach the goalies, Ruf said.

The U11 team will be holding a four-team tournament on Feb. 4, with teams from Churchbridge, Yorkton and Roblin, while the U13 team will have its tournament on Feb. 25; the U9 team on March 4, and the U7 team on March 11.
