Para athlete wins silver at the 2022 Canada Summer Games

History was made once again as the men’s box lacrosse team took to the box to play Team MB for the first time in 37 years at Canada Summer Games.

KAMSACK - Team Sask wins the first medal of week two- silver in Shot Put Para!

Athletics did not waste any time on the track and field today. Para athlete, Teddy Hudye won silver in shot put para male. Many other athletes qualified for finals, which will take place later this week.

History was made once again as the men’s box lacrosse team took to the box to play Team MB for the first time in 37 years at Canada Summer Games. Team Sask tied Team MB 4-4 and will play again tomorrow in preliminary round play.

PREVIOUS DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • ATHLETICS, PARA ATHLETICS, SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Team Sask had three top ten finishes on the first day of competition. In pole vault Siera Leonard and Taylor de Jong finished fourth and seventh respectively. Teddy Hudye had a big day in shot put para male. He secured a silver medal.
  • BOX LACROSSE (M): The men’s box lacrosse team tied Team MB 4-4 in their first competition of the Games. They currently sit third in Pool B and will play Team PE next in the preliminary round.  
  • CANOE KAYAK: All Team Sask paddlers advanced to the consolation final. Athletes finished top six or seven including Kaelynn Rochefort who finished seventh overall in the C-1 500m female race and Dominic Tarasoff who finished sixth overall in the C-1 500m male race.
  • CYCLING: Cross over athlete from triathlon, Nata Kolesova finished 19th out of a field of 34 with a time of 20:30.70 in the road cycling - individual time trial. Our top male finisher Caleb Bender placed 6th with a time of 28:04.64 in the same event.
  • DIVING: Team Sask had six athletes on the platform today. On the women’s side Presley Deck missed out on a bronze medal by 2.1 points placing fourth. Lila Stewart finished eighth, while Brooklyn Markusson finished 14th. On the men’s side Kash Tarasoff finished 10th, while brothers Casey Spilchak and Jamie Spilchak finished 14th and 17th respectively.
  • GOLF: Team Sask had one more practice round and will be on course for individual and team mix competition August 17.
  • ROWING: Team Sask was on the water for one more training day. The team will begin competition August 17.
  • SAILING, PARA SAILING: Team Sask will make waves August 17 on the first day of competition.
  • SOCCER (F): Team Sask lost its opening game to Team Alberta 8-0. They will play Team MB August 17.
  • SOFTBALL (M): The men’s team had a big first day of competition. Ryan Bicknell made the “catch of the tourney,” in the first inning according to Rod Schmidt, mission staff. The team went on to win 14-0 over Team NB.  
  • VOLLEYBALL: In men’s and women’s volleyball action, Team Sask lost its first matches to Team AB, 3-1. Both teams play August 17 in the preliminary round.
