Post-secondary education was also on the long list of losers in last week’s provincial budget.

Yorkton’s school divisions will see significantly less money thanks to the 2017/2018 provincial budget. The Good Spirit School Division will see a funding decrease of 3.15 per cent, or $2,275,872, for a total budget of $69,966,168.

While Yorkton was grappling with a provincial budget that will strip $2.3 million from the city’s bottom line, the federal budget released the same day, March 22, has kind of slipped under the radar locally.

Yorkton Chamber of Commerce President Brent Murdock does not believe that the provincial budget is the worst one that Saskatchewan has seen, but the business community in the city will see a negative impact thanks to the changes made.

Yorkton Walmart had to be evacuated last week due to a threat. At approximately 1:35 p.m. on March 24, RCMP, Fire and EMS responded to an unspecified threat at the store on Hamilton Road.
