While rain has been an issue capital works projects undertaken by the City this summer are progressing well.

That was the message Yorkton Council heard Monday in a presentation by Brian Stanicki – Assistant Director Public Works.

“Construction projects throughout the City continue to progress well despite delays due to ongoing and excessive rainfall,” he said.

The work includes the Mayhew Avenue roadway project being completed and reopened to vehicle traffic earlier this summer.

“The City encountered delays in this project due to unforeseen and excessive rainfall. Consideration was taken at both Linden Square and Canadian Tire property to improve traffic flow and to minimize intersection flooding,” said Stanicki.

In addition, “On August 19, 2016 the Dracup north roadway was opened completely from Darlington to York Road. Work is still going on the North College entrance and the Collacott north approach, but will not affect vehicle movement on Dracup Avenue,” he continued.

Dracup South underground work is now completed.

“Base preparations have started to ensure that all sub-base material meets compaction specifications,” said Stanicki.

“Once completed this area of roadway will be handed over to Acadia Paving so base material can be hauled in for the preparation of the new concrete roadway.”
