SASKATOON - A 53-year-old female is now recovering in the hospital following a collision on Highway 41 that happened at 4:13 p.m. Wednesday.

The driver was operating a passenger vehicle and crossed the centre line into the path of a semi loaded with steel. The driver of the semi took evasive action and successfully avoided a head on collision, however, the car sideswiped the trailer and sustained severe damage.

Responding crews from the Saskatoon Fire Department used hydraulic cutting tools to extricate the patient out of her vehicle. Care of the patient was transferred to the ambulance service on scene.

Impairment was not a factor in this collision.

Members of the Saskatoon Police Service Collision Analyst Unit attended and cleared the scene around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday. However, road restrictions remained until early Thursday morning as emergency crews worked to clear the scene of debris and steel.

Highway 41 is now again passable for motorists after members of the police CAU had already cleared the road early Thursday morning.

Police would like to thank the public for avoiding the area and finding alternate routes allowing emergency personnel to work safely.
