An emergency alert issued to cell phones by SaskAlert had lines to the Saskatoon Police Service ringing, as the location was not included in the alert.

"Saskatoon Police Service Communications have started receiving multiple calls in regards to an Emergency Alert that has been broadcast by the RCMP.

"The emergency notice is in regards to an on going incident north of Melfort. The RCMP are on scene and continue to investigate.

"At this time, there is no relation between this incident and the Saskatoon area."

The first alert delivered to cell phones read, "Avoid the community. Suspect is male and mode of transportation is unknown at this time. Be wary of someone asking for a ride. Do not pick up hitchhikers. If in the area, seek immediate shelter/shelter in place. Do not leave a secure location. Report emergencies or tips call 9 1 1. A second alert at about 9:12 p.m. included the name of the community.
