SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a structure fire early Tuesday morning, Nov. 28, and turned the scene to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

The SPSA will investigate the cause and origin of the fire rather than the SFD fire investigator, as they have jurisdiction over the community south of the city limits.

SFD dispatch received the call of a single-family housing unit on fire off Highway 219 in Furdale at 1:12 a.m. All residents of the house were safely evacuated.

The rear of the house’s garage was on fire and the flames were advancing to the other areas of the two-storey home.

SFD dispatched two fire engines, a brush truck, a tanker unit and the Battalion Chief. Firefighters, upon arrival, saw flames from the triple-attached garage coming from the roof.

The fire was brought under control at 3:34 a.m. but fire crews remained on the scene until 6:34 a.m. before returning to their respective stations.
