These are two photographs of the seven recycle bins and the one garbage bin that have been located at the Broda Sportsplex parking lot. Because of the papers and debris that have been left outside and around the bins, town council has decided to move them to a site on town property on Saskatchewan Street near to the Parkland recycling plant. The bins will be at their new location on July 20.

Because of sloppy paper disposal and garbage being scattered on the ground at Broda Sportsplex, town council has decided to move the recycling bins and one garbage bin to a new site on town property on Saskatchewan Street, near to the Parkland waste recycling plant.

During its meeting of June 22, town council agreed to move the bins effective July 20.

The bins are often full of paper products but that is because people did not bother to fold their boxes and pack down the paper, Mayor Rod Gardner said last week when talking about the site. “Some of the garbage was even dumped on the street.”

A sight like that affects one’s pride of community, he said.

People should realize that when waste is not properly disposed, other taxpayers must foot the bill because town employees must then clean up the garbage.

Council decided to move the bins to property on Saskatchewan Street because that location is not as highly visible to residents and visitors as is the Broda Sportsplex parking lot, he said. In addition, staff at the recycling plant will be able to keep an eye on the bins and take action whenever necessary.

In total, the Town of Kamsack has 34 such recycling bins distributed around the community. Others are located behind many of the downtown businesses and at the schools and the hospital.
