Update: Members of the Regina Police Service have been asked to investigate an SPS officer-involved shooting that occurred this evening in the 1300 block of Avenue E North.

Earlier, Police had received reports of shots being fired at the location. Upon arrival, members in Patrol and the Tactical Support Unit were able to make entry into the multi-unit residence in an attempt to secure the safety of the other occupants in the building. They were confronted by the armed male suspect when the fatal shooting occurred. No members of the SPS were injured during the incident.

In response to plans by the Saskatchewan Government to ensure greater independence in investigations into police-involved incidents, the SPS immediately requested the investigation be led by the RPS and assisted by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT). The SPS has also requested two independent observers, pursuant to The Saskatchewan Police Act, 1990.

SASKATOON - Saskatoon Police are advising members of the public to avoid the area of 35th Street West and Avenue E North following a report of a person in a residence firing a gun.

Police were called at approximately 5:45 p.m., Oct. 27 regarding a male with a firearm at a residence.  Upon arrival patrol members heard shots being fired.

The block has been cordoned off and there is a large police presence in the area.

Further information will be released when it becomes available.
