Update: Saskatoon police make arrest after firearm discharged

Saskatoon police officers cordon off a portion of Northumberland following a shooting incident late afternoon.

SASKATOON - Update 4:42 p.m.: Police continue to investigate a shooting that took place in the 1000 block of Northumberland Avenue. The school in the area that had been placed into lockdown as a precaution has since lifted those restrictions. At this time, Police continue to ask members of the motoring public to avoid the area.

An update will be provided upon new information becoming known.

Background 3:36 p.m.: Saskatoon Police have a man in custody and are currently investigating a shooting that took place earlier this afternoon.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Oct. 15, police received a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of Northumberland Avenue. Upon arrival, patrol officers located evidence that a firearm had been discharged. Officers have taken a man in possession of a firearm into custody at Avenue Y and 33rd Street. No victims have been located at this time.

Police are continuing to investigate, and traffic restrictions are in place at Morris Drive and Northumberland Avenue.

The incident took place in front of a school, which has been placed into lockdown as a precaution. The incident is not believed to be connected to the school.

Vincent Massey Community School is located at the intersection of Morris Drive and Northumberland Avenue. Bishop Klein School is also in the vicinity.
