Update: Saskatoon Police arrest barricaded man: Taken to hospital

A man with a knife was threatening to harm others, say police. He was taken into custody after being tazered.

Update: A 54-year-old Saskatoon man that had barricaded himself inside an apartment unit has been taken into custody following several hours of unsuccessful negotiation.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife threatening to cause harm to others. Upon arrival, the man had barricaded himself inside an apartment unit located in the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road.

Multiple police resources were required throughout the morning including; Patrol, Crisis Negotiation, Tactical Support, K9, and Forensic Identification. For several hours, the man refused to negotiate with police or comply with any commands and continued to act in an erratic manner.

Members of the Tactical Support Unit ultimately breached the barricaded unit and deployed a less-lethal weapon against the suspect; he was taken into custody a short time later. A tactical paramedic assessed the suspect prior to his transport to the hospital by Medavie Health Services West.

The incident is now resolved and charges are pending against the suspect involved.

SASKATOON - Police are currently at the scene of a barricaded person inside an apartment complex located in the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road.

The incident began at approximately 12:30 a.m. and remains ongoing. There are no traffic restrictions in place; however, members of the public are advised to avoid the area as a precaution.

An update will be provided upon new information becoming known or resolution of the incident.
