Update: Fire on Avenue E South started in basement

The cause of Tuesday afternoon's fire on the 100 Block of Avenue E South is undetermined.

A fire on the 100 block of Avenue E South originated in the basement’s bedroom and caused $150,000 damage to the structure.

SASKATOON – Investigation has concluded on what caused yesterday’s fire in the 100 block of Avenue E South.

Investigators from the Saskatoon Fire Department and Saskatoon Police Service conducted a joint examination of the structure and concluded that the cause of the fire is undetermined. The fire, however, originated inthe basement’s bedroom and caused $150,000 to the structure.

The SFD Communications Centre received the call of a structure fire at 2:49 p.m. and immediately three fire engines, a ladder truck, one heavy rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched to the scene.

The first fire engine arrived four minutes later with the Fire Officer, after smoke was seen from the structure, began issuing tactical assignments to other arriving fire trucks.

SaskEnergy and Saskatoon Light & Power personnel also arrived on the scene and disconnected the structure’s utility services to provide safety for firefighters and the general public.

Firefighters entered the structure after the fire trucks were hooked up to the nearby hydrant. Responding fire fighters encountered heavy smoke in the basement. Fire crews had the seat of the fire knocked down at 3:25 p.m.
