YORKTON - Yorkton has made the list of the 100 most liveable cities as determined by The Globe and Mail newspaper.

“It’s pretty exciting, humbling news,” Yorkton Mayor Mitch Hippsley told Yorkton This Week. “. . . I’m pretty proud of our city.”

Hippsley said it was not clear exactly how the national newspaper selected the 100 cities, ultimately Yorkton was one of only three Saskatchewan communities on the list, the others being Regina and Saskatoon.

There were only 10 Prairie province cities on the list.

While details on what went into the selection were not known, Hippsley said he sees the safety we enjoy in Yorkton as a key.

It’s also a city where you can make a couple of stops on your noon hour, go home, eat lunch and “be back at work by one o’clock,” he said.

Hippsley said making the list – even at number 73 – is something the community should be proud of. He said essentially making the list was reaffirmation from “an outside source of what we already know. We know we live in a great city.”
