Amber Holland's curling team had plenty to be happy about this season, including a win at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Native of Yorkton, curler Amber Holland and her team were recently awarded the Sask Sport Inc., Athlete(s) of the Month for March following their success this past winter.

Born in Yorkton, Holland skipped Saskatchewan's team to a national championship on the women's side earlier this year when she beat defending champion Jennifer Jones in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Holland and her rink started the Scotties round robin portion of the tournament with an eight-game winning streak, which led to a first-place finish.

In the final against Jones' rink, the score was tied up at 7-7 heading into the final end. Yorkton's Holland stole a single to win after Jones missed her final shot.

Following that victory, Holland was awarded the Sandra Schmirler Most Valuable Player award.

The Holland rink moved on to compete in their first ever World Women's Curling Championship.

They played an amazing tournament and competed against 12 other teams to come home with a silver medal.

Holland is also a national championship at the junior level in 1992. She couldn't be reached in time for press for comment.

Other nominees were Taryn Suttie, Saskatchewan Athletics; Eric Bryce, Saskatchewan Baseball Association; Team Saskatchewan, Synchro Saskatchewan; Drew Matthews, Swim Saskatchewan Inc., Kali Christ, Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association.
