The LDM Foods Kids of Steel triathlon was held over the weekend in perfect weather conditions and organizers say they couldn't be happier. In two races held in the morning hours on Sunday, a total of 53 participants took part. The Kids of Steel race, featuring a mix of swimming, cycling and running took a little over an hour to complete and included 33 kids, about half of them from Yorkton.

"I was incredibly happy with the way things went," said Michelle Walker, one of the event's organizers. "They had a lot of fun."

The morning marked the end of the season for the KOS group, who have been up early each Saturday morning getting themselves in top physical condition.

Walker said it was great because it gave participants a chance to not only compete against other racers but also get out and get some good exercise in weather that was very much in their favour.

"It was a great feeling of accomplishment. (All around) it was a good day in general."

She added that there are some members of the club who are very competitive and others who were enjoying it as a recreational experience, something she said allows them to compete against themselves. Following the swim-bike-run for the kids was an adult tri-a-du which included about 20 participants, she said.

The races bring the KOS season to an end and Walker said she plans to start it up again next year. The KOS is a provincial-series race with about five races in five different cities across Saskatchewan.
