Barrage of goals in SJ contest in Yorkton Friday

YORKTON - For the second night in-a-row the offences were clicking for the hometown Yorkton Terriers and the visiting Battlefords North Stars.

The SJHL teams combined for 12 goals Thursday evening, then scored 15 Friday.

Yorkton started things Friday with Jason Desnoyers scoring 3:14 into the contest at the Westland Insurance Arena.

At 4:23 Cooper Algayer made it 2-0.

A powerplay goal by Ben Porter at 5:01 cut the Terrier lead in half.

Aiden Knutson responded with a powerplay goal for the Terriers at 11:08 to make it 3-1.

Marshall Light at 14:35 and Bradley Blake with another man-advantage marker at 16:58 knotted the score 3-3 through 20-minutes of play.

The second stanza was an all Battlefords affair as the Stars scored three unanswered goals.

Xavier Lacoste broke the tie 44 seconds into the period, then Brayden Sinclair hit the score sheet at 9:20 with Lacoste back for his second of the night at 15:27.

The Terriers looked to be on the comeback trail as Cade Kennedy scored 1:27 into the third, followed by Knutson with his second of the contest at 10:27 to make it 6-5.

But the Stars wouldn’t be caught.

Ashtyn Shields scored at 13:06 and Jackson Allan contributed an unassisted marker at 14:14 to make it 8-5.

The teams traded late goals; Clay Sleeva for Yorkton at 16:40 and Rylan Williams into an empty net at 19:06 for Battlefords to round out a 9-6 Stars win.

Caleb Allen faced 32-shots in the Terrier net taking the loss.

Cedric Cyr-Dauphinais started for the Stars facing nine shots and allowing three goals in 12:46 of play.

Joey Hawco faced 18-shots the rest of the way.
