The Saskatchewan Volleyball Association's Asics Cup returned to town over the weekendIn what was their closest win of the weekend the Yorkton Blitz Nitro U15 girls volleyball team came out on top of 16 other teams Sunday afternoon.

They left with the highest possible victory in Tier I play Sunday afternoon at MC Knoll gym.

Head coach Bryce Krawetz was more than a little estatic with the results of his team's weekend, their first tournament action of the season and they came away with a very close victory.

The Saskatchewan Volleyball Association Asics Cup was played out for U15 girls and the Blitz Nitro won their final game, 2-1.

Krawetz said he was hoping for a top-5 finish.

"To win gold, that was not in our division...it was a total team effort," he said following the victory."This team did a great job."

The tournament gave them a really good idea of what the volleyball competition is like in their age group and Krawetz said he was thrilled with how his team was able to make changes in their game in order to counter another team's particular skill.

"The girls all know what they can do. They did a great job. They were very good at adapting to the variety (of skills) of the other teams."

One of those changes occurred in the Tier I finals, observed Krawetz.

He said the toughest opponent in the tournament was the final match but did not come without some changes which they had to make.

They faced some tall competition up front and it forced Yorkton to have to hit the ball away from the centre, he said.

"The height they had there (was amazing)."

The tournament was the team's first of the year and they won gold with 10 players in the lineup
