Canora Atom Cobras Black proud to reach playoffs halfway through season

The Canora Atom Cobras Black played two more games before reaching the halfway point of the season with a respectable second place in the league.

            The team played one home game on January 13 at the Canora Civic Centre, where it defeated the Yorkton Richardson Atom Terriers 5-1. Goals were scored by Taye Shukin (three), Briel Beblow and Ty Sleeva. Assists were by Chase Hembling, Brody Gulka (two) and Briel Beblow (two).

            On January 15, the team played once again at the Canora Civic Centre against the Canora Atom Cobras Red, who were defeated 6-0.

            Goals were made by Linden Roebuck, Chase Hembling, Taye Shukin (three) and Keegan Dyck. Assists were by Chase Hembling and Ty Sleeva.   

            Jennifer Sleeva, the manager of the Canora Atom Black Cobras, said the coaches were very proud of the players, who finished the first half of the season with a second-place finish overall, winning eight games, losing one, and tying one. The team will now enter the North ‘A’ playoff round.

            “The Canora Atom Black Cobras are a young team, with only three of nine players being second-year players,” Sleeva said.

            “The team is working hard together, having fun, improving and learning.”
