CHURCHBRIDGE - It was a full slate Sunday as the MVP Circuit Event at the Churchbridge Disc Golf Course.

“It was a great turn-out,” said Parkland Association of Disc Golf tournament director Trevor Lyons. “It was a huge success for the second leg of this year’s Legacy Co-op Tour.”

Lyons explained this year’s was a little different as each player received three MVP discs as part of their entry, and they had to use only those discs in the 36-basket (three round) event.

“It’s a great way to add some new discs to your bag, and it sort of evens things out as all the players had to adapt to throwing new discs,” he said.

There were 24 sets available, and they were all taken, a couple of players even borrowed a set over the lunch hour and attacked the course too.

Lyons added lunch was a highlight too as some 20 hungry disc golfers invaded a Churchbridge cafe.

“It’s great the players were able to spend some money in a local restaurant. It’s important for a community see the economic benefit of a course, and not just the recreation it provides,” said Lyons.

As for the action on the course top spot went to Calgary’s Triston McKay with a three-round score of 113 – plus-1 overall.

Three strokes back was Chad Sies of Melville. He shot 115.

There was a log jam for third with Arlen Nickel of Regina, Brendon Lobraico of Yorkton, Gage McKay of Fort Qu’Appelle, Chris Istace of Moosomin and Regina’s Taylor Mountain all shooting 119.

Players from as far as Swift Current, Saskatoon and North Battleford also took part.

The final stop on the Legacy Tour – stop one was in Kamsack – will be the Yorkton Open Oct. 7.
