Trinity Schneider was among a handful of young hopefuls looking to warm up her softball skills when league play begins.

Nearly 20 young girls showed up Sunday evening at a females-only softball practice that was held at the Gloria Hayden Centre.

Jessica Evans said it was a good turnout considering that February usually means that there are still kids everywhere who are tied up with ice hockey and various other commitments.

Evans is part of the Yorkton Female Minor Softball league. Practices are going to be running more often as the winter dies out, will be held four evenings throughout March and into the early part of April from 3-5 p.m., at the Gloria Hayden Centre. The ages of the girls playing is from 6-17. Thirteen took part in Sunday's practice and Evans said she is hoping to be able to put together four teams for this upcoming season. She said that it is free to play and the season runs from May-July. Games are expected to be played out at the field located beside the Kinsmen Arena. Travel will also be part of the season too.

Provided all goes according to plan, the away games could be played in Churchbridge, Esterhazy and as far east as Russell, MB.
