Kamsack track club member wins gold at Saskatoon meet

Two Kamsack students, who are members of the Kamsack Track and Field Club, competed at the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Indoor Championships in Saskatoon on the weekend.

            Two Kamsack students, who are members of the Kamsack Track and Field Club, competed at the Saskatchewan Aboriginal Indoor Championships in Saskatoon on the weekend.

            Gerri Basaraba and Petrie Whitehawk, who are Grade 5 students at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute, competed in Saskatoon on March 5, said Chantel Kitchen, their track coach.

            Both girls had competed at the indoor age class provincials meet in Saskatoon on February 13, when Whitehawk, in the bantam division, placed eighth in long jump, 15th in shot put and 12th in the 60m race.

            Basaraba placed 13th in the 60m race, 13th in long jump and was first in shotput, Kitchen said. She received a Saskatchewan Athletics provincial gold medal for her throw in shot put, which was 5.59 metres.

            The club plans to have members attend the Kinsmen Indoor Championships on March 18 and 19 in Saskatoon, she said
