Even though the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute senior girls basketball team did not qualify to go to Hoopla, the season ended on a high note, according to Ryan Stanko, their coach.

At Indian Head where the team played for the Regional championship on March 11 and 12, the team first lost to Valley Christian Academy of Osler, 47-45, Stanko said.

“The girls played hard but the game was extremely rough and physical,” he said. Three girls were injured and two were fouled out of the game and a reserve player had to be brought in.

            “It was a tough game.”

On the next day, the team outscored the Tisdale team 54-42, he said. The girls were happy to see that Brooke Andrusiak, a former student of KCI was a member of the Tisdale team.

“The girls played well as a team.”

The team had qualified to advance to the Regionals the weekend before during the Conference competition held at Moosomin, he said. The team defeated Moosomin 43-34, and then lost a close game 53-48 to the Regina Christian Academy team.

This concludes the season, he said. “We had wanted to go to Hoopla, which is the competition among the four top teams in the province, but we ended on a good note.”
