Derek Marshall and Mackenzie Alcorn both went to Nevada recently to compete in a baseball tournament called the Desert Classic, representing Saskatchewan and Canada in their divisions.

Both players participated on Team Saskatoon. Both played in separate tournaments. Marshall played in four games and said it was a really good experience both with the baseball and having visited one of the biggest tourist attractions in the country.

Marshall played on the under-15 team and Alcorn made the under-14 team. Both also had differing thoughts on what it was like playing baseball in the USA.

Marshall said he was happy just to be there and take in the different atmosphere and the different players, while Alcorn said he wasn't as impressed with some of the teams that he had to play against.

"I'm actually kind of disappointed in some teams," he said upon arrival back home. "They weren't as good as I expected."

From what he saw during play, there were two teams from southern California that didn't play as well as some of the other American squads.
