The MC Knoll Elementary School girls' volleyball had a dream season capped by winning the city volleyball championships held here last Monday and Tuesday.

And they even had the extra benefit of doing it on their home court.
The 2010 Yorkton Elementary School Sports Association (YESSA) Annual City Volleyball championships started and finished last week at the MC Knoll/St. Michael's gym. Winners were determined by 8 p.m., Tuesday night.

The team was coached by Ryan Jordan and Justin Grunert.
Players included Morgan Thorley, Morgan Sapara, Caleigh Grunert, Teghan Harvey, Tamara Ulmer, Edie Schramm, Bailey Pelchat, Shayna Kemp and Brett Lindsay.

MC Knoll started the tournament playing in the 'C' pool alongside St. Michael's, Yorkdale Central, and Dr. Brass.

MC Knoll led the pack standings in first place, followed by Yorkdale, St. Michael's and Dr. Brass.

Both coaches said the team went through both tournament days without a loss to their record and added that he saw it coming to an MC Knoll vs. Yorkdale Central final.

"Yesterday we went undefeated," he said of the first day of the tournament. "We kind of needed it (the tournament) to come down to Yorkdale (and us)."

He said the Columbia Cougars gave them a good fight too earlier in the day.

Grunert said his team's chances of winning came down to how well the girls would mesh together and rise to the occasion.
"Our biggest strength is our ability to work as a team. We really came a long way."

He commended the Yorkdale Central team after the final, saying "Yorkdale always gives us a run."
