Minor hockey excellence awards banquet tonight

It's been a banner year for the Yorkton Minor Hockey Association (YMHA), and to prove it, they are going to be hanging a few more of them up in the rafters of Kinsmen Arena, said Kelly Maddin, president of the YMHA.

It's been a banner year for the Yorkton Minor Hockey Association (YMHA), and to prove it, they are going to be hanging a few more of them up in the rafters of Kinsmen Arena, said Kelly Maddin, president of the YMHA.

With the minor hockey season officially completed, Maddin said there were seven teams that really did well.

They will be hanging banners to commemorate the seasons. From the Major Hockey League (MHL), the Clean Spot Terriers, Kawchuk Construction Terriers and Scoops teams all won titles this season.

The Clean Spot team won the 'A' title in Novice action, the Kawchuk Construction team won the 'B' title in Atom play and the Scoops also won in Atom action, claiming the 'C' title.

From the South East Minor Hockey League Atom AA Tier I, the Xerox AA Terriers won the league championship over Moosomin and just returned from a trip to Calgary where they were part of the biggest hockey tournament for Atom and Pee Wee players, the Crowchild Challenge.

From the South Saskatchewan league, the Kozie Drywall Terriers Pee Wee AA team won the league championships. Maddin said their banner is being worked on at present.

From the same league, the Bantam AA UCT Terriers won the 'B' division championship.

The accomplishments will be recognized at the Yorkton Minor Hockey Association Esso awards banquet at the Gallagher Centre.
