The 15U Nitro volleyball team played to a fifth place finish in Tier I play in Asics Cup II girls' volleyball action over the weekend.
"The girls played well," offered Bryce Krawetz, coach of the Nitros. "We played really well."
The tournament was a step up in play for the Blitz, who would normally compete at the 15U level, instead they played in the 16U against players who are older and more experienced, said Krawetz.
"It was good experience, but in the end it was overpowering."
The Nitro had played and beat Prince Albert early on, 2-1 in sets and blanked QCVC Regina 2-0 but lost to Oxbow 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Krawetz said in the re-pool, Yorkton played the Southeast Stingers and it went the full three sets but lost to QCVC Regina 2-0 following the Southeast match.
Krawetz said that the fifth place finish was "a great finish for us".
It gave the team a chance to get in some more playing time and play against teams with older players.
"In general we tried to get as much playing time (as we could)."
Krawetz added that they got excellent play from team captain Tamara Hershmiller and that none of them will be playing at the same level next year."They will all be moving up."

The Blitz will be travelling to Moose Jaw over the weekend for another tournament. Following that tournament, he is hoping to be able to host one last home event scheduled for the middle of April and then it could be on to provincial on the last weekend of April, scheduled for Lloydminster. The Asics Cups determines seedings for the provincials.
