Provincial championship for United U18

The Yorkton United FC Under 18 Men’s team traveled to Lloydminster July 1-3 to contest the Provincial championships and came away as Under 18 Provincial champions.

The Yorkton United FC Under 18 Men’s team recently came away with Under 18 Provincial championship.

The Yorkton United FC Under 18 Men’s team traveled to Lloydminster July 1-3 to contest the Provincial championships and came away as Under 18 Provincial champions. The boys capped a stellar outdoor season with the provincial win, losing only one game in the three tournaments that they played; this versus a very strong side from Brandon Manitoba. At this provincial championship they dominated the score board by outscoring their opposition 12 to 0. Braden Gustin recorded the 4 shut outs for the Yorkton United team.

United opened the tournament against Saskatoon Lakewood Worldstars. Midway through the second half with the score locked at nil-nil, center full back Derek Campbell pushed up to play striker and scored the game winner. The final score 1-0 for Yorkton.

In Game 2 of the round robin Yorkton United FC faced Northern Internazionale and defeated them 6-0 on the strength of goals by Simon Ford, Nathan Cochrane (2), Ben Fetsch (3)

Next up were Swift Current United, where Yorkton United prevailed 3-0. Ben Fetsch had a pair of goals and Christian Smith added the single.

The three victories advanced United to the Final against Saskatoon Lakewood Worldstars. United dominated play and eventually found the back of the net midway through the second half where once again center back turned striker Derek Campbell scored the winning goal once again. Zach Kostersky added the insurance goal and the game ended in a 2-0 final score and the crown of provincial champions for Yorkton United.

In addition to Yorkton winning the championship, they also were victorious in the Skills competition as well as recipients of the Fair play award for sportsmanship.

Coaches Jeanne Fetsch and Michael Jakubiec were very pleased with the effort and the excellence the team portrayed and would like to wish the best to graduating players Ben Fetsch, Austin Jasan, Zach Kostersky and Cody Doll in their future soccer endeavours.
