Her school colours are gold and green but Morgan Shymanski's new favourite colour has got to be gold.

It's been quite the golden year for the Gr. 9 student at Sacred Heart High School.

She ends the season unlike most, having won four badminton gold medals; no silver or bronze, just solid gold.

It started on April 11 at the York City badminton tournament when Shymanski topped everyone in her way, en route to a gold medal finish in girls' singles action.

Only five days later, she came out on top April 11 while playing in Melville and two days after that, while playing at the City Championships between the Sacred Heart players and the Yorkton Regional High School, Shymanski collected her third gold in three straight tournaments.

"It's (been) a lot of fun," she told the paper recently. She's only been playing badminton for three years but has plenty of other athletic activity keeping her busy throughout the school year.

Those activities include: high school basketball, volleyball and soccer.

Her SHHS badminton coach Brian Chisholm said it was a pretty solid year, obviously for his four-time gold medal winner, but also the entire badminton club on the junior side.

"They were much more dedicated this year then last."

Finally, this year at Districts, held at the Regional, she won her fourth gold medal and helped her school badminton team finish second place overall in the team Aggregate competition; Sacred Heart lost only to Esterhazy.

Shymanski's gold came like the others, but she was quick to point out that it did not come easy.

"At districts, I was winning 19-14 and Esterhazy came back (in the second game) of the final."

She said her coach (Chisholm) helped her out a little bit.

"He told me to keep smashing the birdie," adding that to win these important games, "you have to be quick on your feet".
