The Yorkton Sacred Heart Saints junior girls basketball team took part over the weekend in the Melville Comprehensive School basketball tournament over the weekend.

The Saints played Norquay in their first game on the Friday and topped Norquay, 28-17. Leading scorer for SHHS was Kristen Jonassen who supplied 12 points.

Next up was Indian Head and SHHS topped them too, by a more dominating score of 45-18. Jonassen couldn't be stopped for the second straight match, leading her team again with 14 points. Teammate Hannah Hansen was not far behind at 12 points.

With the two victories, it was SHHS against the host club, Melville Comprehensive and according to SHHS coaches, "what a final it was".

"With fans cheering hard in the stands and the girls playing hard, they brought home the gold medal," says coaches Lana Haider and Laura Dean.

SHHS won by eight points and again Jonassen led with 12 points and Morgan Shymanski helped out with 10.

The SHHS Lady Saints next play on Jan. 12 at home against Melville's St. Henry's.
