Springer's hosts Invitational meet at Sacred Heart

The gymnasium at Sacred Heart High School was filled for two days over the weekend as gymnasts from all over Saskatchewan took part in the Yorkton Springer's Gymnastics Invitational Meet.


The gymnasium at Sacred Heart High School was filled for two days over the weekend as gymnasts from all over Saskatchewan took part in the Yorkton Springer's Gymnastics Invitational Meet.

Participating clubs included: Prince Albert, Humboldt, Moose Jaw, Regina, Carnduff, Hudson Bay and Springer's Yorkton in the competitive categories held all day on Saturday, said Tanya Nystrom, co-chair of the Invitational.

Sunday included the recreational events which included: Estevan, Dauphin, Carnduff, Grandview and Carlyle.

Competitors were involved in several categories and competed on several apparatuses including the vault, bars, beam, and floor action.

Levels of competition included: Gym Cat beginner, Gym Cat advanced, Provincial I, Provincial II, Provincial III and Recreation I and II.

Gold medal winners in Gym Cat advanced were: Hannah Wennberg, Jarvis Brynn, Jenna Schofer, Meaghan Pinno, Alison Landstad.

In the same category, silver medals went to: Courtney Matychuk, Jessica Gascho, Sidney Shyiak, Hayley Fayant-Stephens, and Alexis Repsch won bronze.

In the Provincial I category Argo and Tyro, Shalysa Brown of Yorkton won top rank for highest all around score. She placed third on the vault.

She then finished in fourth on the bars, sixth on the beam and second overall on the floor.

Jayden Jarvis and Emily Zajac rounded out the top 11 scorers in that category.

In the Provincial II Argo, Tyro, Open, Breanne Gelowitz of Springer's Yorkton finished highest with an all around ranking of number one

She was followed close behind by Cassidy Stachowich, who ranked number two all around, while Bryn Nystrom, Sierra Cook and Hannah Herman rounded out the top seven scorers in the category.
In Gym Cat beginner, three of four Yorkton athletes won gold medals: Ashten Miller, Kaybrie Lutz and Ashley Ivanochko. Emileigh McClenaghan won silver.

QCK REGINA

Nystrom said there is still one more competition for the year.

It will be held April 15-17 at QCK in Regina. She said Springer's will be attending.
