Terriers

The Yorkton Terriers can now start thinking about the Stars.

The Battlefords North Stars to be specific.

The two teams will face each other in one of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s semi-final series after both Battlefords and Yorkton won game seven in their quarter final rounds.

The Terriers game seven was in Nipawin against the Hawks, the league’s top team in the SJHL through the regular season.

The Terriers took the lead 11:46 into the first at Centennial Arena in Nipawin when the team’s regular season points leader Jared Legien finally put a playoff goal on the board.

Chantz Petruic made it 2-0 at 15:50.

The hometown fans finally had something to cheer about at 18:41 of the opening period as Colten Gerlib made it a 2-1 contest with a powerplay effort.

Legien was back for his second of the game at 15:58 of the second, to give the Terriers their second two-goal lead of the game.

It was a short-lived two-goal margin as Michael Makarenko responded for Nipawin only 13-seconds later to make it a 3-2 score.

Thirty-seconds after the Hawk goal Petruic scored his second of the game to make it 4-2 Yorkton headed to the third period.

It was midway into the third when Logan Moon cut into the Terrier lead, scoring for the Hawks at 11:34 to make it a 4-3 lead.

Ryan Ouellette in the Terrier net would turn away everything else the Hawks would throw his way to secure a 4-3 win. He would face 24-shots in the win.

Patrick Pugliese took the loss in the Nipawin net.

The dates for the series with the Stars will be finalized over the next couple of days, but will start in Battlefords.
