Bongo Volleyball wrapped up last Sunday afternoon at the Yorkton Regional High School and two other locations.

It was held Feb. 19-20. "We had 27 team take part. Thirteen men's teams, six A-class women's teams and eight B-class women's teams," says Darren Wandy, Bongo organizer.

According to Wandy, it was another stellar year for the tournament.

"This was Bongo Volley's 20th year and the competition was very good once again this year."

On the men's side, MooBosh won over Sleezy Bandeezy. On the women's A side, Serves You Right topped Mixed Nuts and on the B side, Kiss My Pass took down defending champions, Gonzo Compadres.

Wandy said the tournament is always fun because you never know anything about some of the new teams that come out to play.

"Year to year, you never know. New teams come in and you never know (what they're like)."

Wandy said everybody that comes to play gets a lot of playing time.

The tournament started off early on the Saturday morning and the gym at the Regional was not empty until around 5:30 the following day.

"It's nice to see all those kids come together," he said afterwards, adding that some of them are former residents of Yorkton; most of whom return to Yorkton's tournament year after year, states Wandy.

"They get to show their skills, but it's a good opportunity to continue to Bongo (tradition)," he continued.

The tournament has been running for 20 years, he said.

The men's side final started at 2:30 p.m., on the final day of competition and saw a battle of the University of Regina take place, as MooBosh beat Sleezy Bandeezy, a match that went the three-game limit, say Wandy.

"It's always entertaining."

In the women's A class, Wandy says, "it's basically the same thing, whereas the B class saw the usual winners Gonzo Compadres come up short against Kiss My Pass.
