The Under 8 Yorkton United Boys soccer team travelled to Regina with 2 separate teams, Yorkton Real and Yorkton Atletico, for the annual Summerfest tournament July 8 – 10, which, for most of the boys’, was their first soccer tournament.
The Atletico boys played their first match against a strong Regina FCR Cheetah-Bears team and lost to them 2-5 in a well fought game.
Up next for the Yorkton boys was a game featuring both Yorkton teams.
After a good game from both sides, Yorkton Atletico came out on top 4-0. Cashel McDowell played excellent in net for Atletico recording the team’s only shutout.
The Yorkton boys played their second last game of the round robin with a chance to advance to the final if they could defeat a very strong team, Beausejour Orange Crushers.
The boys played their best game of the season defeating Beausejour 2-1 in a very exciting game.
In the final game of the round robin, Yorkton came up against the team that would go on to win the tournament, Regina’s FCR Rattlers.
Although Atletico played very well in both games, the Rattlers were an extraordinary team and the Yorkton boys ended up on the wrong side of 0-5 losses in both the round robin and in the final.
The team improved enormously throughout the tournament led by Captain Cashel McDowell in net and goal scorers Colton Keltie, Graden Leik and Dawson Prodonchuk. This tournament ends the season for the Under 8 United Boys who produced an excellent result winning the Silver medal.
