A “good, competitive weekend” ended with a little disappointment for the Yorkton Yankees, said spokesman Mark Jacobs.
The Yankees competed in the Senior AA Tier 2 Provincial Championship in Kindersley from August 12-14, where they fell short in the gold medal game.
The Carlyle Cardinals claimed the top spot of the tournament, beating the Yankees 4-0 in the final.
As the defending champions going into the tournament, Jacobs said the team’s goal was to repeat their success from the 2015 season.
Although they didn’t quite reach their goal, Jacobs said the team was proud to make it as far as they did, considering the caliber of the other teams.
“It was definitely a competitive tournament,” Jacobs said. “Lots of good pitching, good hitting and solid defence. It was a step above what we’ve seen in the past.”
Jacobs said the team rose to the challenge for the most part, but couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed with the outcome.
