The Yorkton Yankees have repeated as Southeast Baseball League champions.
The Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the final over Langenburg last week.
The teams met-up in Game 2 at Langenburg last Tuesday, in a game which could have gone either way.
The teams were deadlocked 2-2 for several innings, before the home team edged ahead 3-2.
However, in the top of the final inning (the seventh in the SEBL), the Yankees managed to plate the equalizer.
With the game tied 3-3 the game would go to extra innings.
In the 10th inning Logan Calanchie would push what would be the game-winning run across the plate.
Ross Stillborn was the Yankee starter on the mound, and he would hurl in 10 innings for the win.
Yankee spokesman Mark Jacobs said the win was a big one “especially when it was on the road in their park.”
The win sent the Yankees home for game 3 “with a lot of confidence,” said Jacobs.
The third game was scheduled for Jubilee Park Wednesday, but was postponed until Thursday because of rain.
The Yankee offence came to the fore in Game 3, striking for six runs in the first inning.
That would prove enough as Logan Calanchie went the distance as the Yorkton starter in the 7-2 win.
The victory gave the Yankees their second straight league title, both coming over Langenburg.
The Yankees now head to Kindersley where they will defend their 2015 Senior AA Tier 3 Provincial Crown which they won in North Battlefords.
Eight teams will be at the event Aug. 12-14.
Jacobs said the core of the team will be SEBL Yankees, but they will bolster the roster with players from Langenburg, Canora and Melville.
“We’ll add some pitching, some more bats, trying to get a more competitive balance,” he said.
