YORKTON - The Yorkton Blitz Volleyball Club is gearing up for another season.

Sunday the club held the first of two days of scheduled try-outs at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall.

Club president Kristine Procyshen said 135 girls ages 12 to 18 were attending Sunday’s sessions.

From the try-outs Procyshen said “we’re hoping for 10 (teams) for sure. We had 10 last year, so we’re hoping.”

This year’s try-outs attracted players from a broad area including Whitewood, Fort Qu’Appelle, Wadena, Canora, Melville and Langenburg.

The teams created based on Sunday’s try-outs and a follow-up session Oct. 22, will travel to various events throughout the season under the auspices of Sask Volleyball and Volleyball Canada, said Procyshen.

The Blitz Club is a non-profit organization with coaches and executive all being volunteers.

To help with cost the club will be holding a cash raffle leading up to Christmas, said Procyshen.

The season officially begins Nov. 26, a date set by Sask Volleyball.
