Yorkton sweeps weekend SJ pair from Melville

The Terriers next action is Friday when they host Humboldt, with Notre Dame here Saturday.

YORKTON - After a home ice win Saturday the Yorkton Terriers headed to Melville for a New Year’s Day tilt for a sweep in the home-and-home set with the Mills.

An unassisted, short-handed effort from Jye Zawatsky at 9:06 gave the visiting Terriers an early first period lead.

Anthony Domin with his 10th of the season, a powerplay marker at 12:48 made it 2-0, and that score held into the middle frame.

Caden Drury finally gave the Melville fans something to cheer about as he cut the Terrier lead in half with a goal at 10:49 of the second period.

Quintin Unreiner restored Yorkton’s two goal lead with a powerplay marker at 17:48.

Sixteen seconds into the third period David Coyle scored for 4-1 Terrier lead.

Euan Morison got the Mills back in the contest with a goal at 16:10 to make it 4-2.

But, 30-seconds later Zawatsky scored his second unassisted goal of the game to make it 5-2, a score that would hold the rest of the way.

Ethan Farrow was in the Terrier net for the win facing 31-shots.

Ethan Rau took the loss facing 32-shots for Melville.

With the two wins the Terriers sit with a record of 11-19-1-1 for 24 points still in the Viterra Division basement but only two points back of Melville with 26.

Weyburn and Estevan both have 28 points.

The Terriers next action is Friday when they host Humboldt, with Notre Dame here Saturday.
