The Terriers have stayed atop the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Sherwood Conference growing their lead to seven points, thanks to straight wins.

This week's work leaves the Terriers with a record of 32-15-2-4 for 70 points.

Kindersley is second with 63. Estevan has edged into third with 57, one better than Weyburn with 56. Melville has 45 only two ahead of Notre Dame for the final playoff spot. The Hounds have 43 points.

The Terriers had the last of their home-and-home sets with rival Melville on the weekend, taking both games.

Friday in Melville the Millionaires took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after 20-minutes on goals by Luca Froese and Tyson Newell.

Yorkton responded with two unanswered goals in the second period to knot the score after 40-minutes.

Riley Paterson and Brant Remenda had the Terrier goals.

In the third, the Terriers pulled away with a trio of goals from Paterson, Justin Buzzeo and Clarke Breitkreuz.

Michael Rogochewsky responded for Melville to round out a 5-3 win by Yorkton.

Warren Shymko faced 30-shots in the Terrier net to get the win.

A night later at the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton, the teams battled to an identical 5-3 win for the Terriers.

Breitkreuz scored the lone goal of the first period to give Yorkton a 1-0 margin.

In the second Craig Eisenhut and Jeremy Boyer and Brent Struble extended the Yorkton lead to 4-1, with Michael Desjarlais responding for Melville.

Breitkreuz scored an early powerplay goal in the third to make it 5-1, before Rogochewsky and Newell both scored in the final three minutes of the game to make it 5-3.

Shymko made it three straight wins in the Terrier nets facing 28-shots.

Shymko said while he was sort of thrust into the breech with the injury to Peters, it was not something he focused on.

"Not at all," he said. I just go out there and play my game," he said.

Shymko had a strong pair of games against Melville, but he was quick to share the credit. He said his defence did a good job of keeping the Millionaire shooters to the outside in the two games.

It also helped that against Melville, the Terrier offence responded at key moments, said Shymko.
Friday they came out in the second period and erased a first period Mills' lead, then Saturday scored almost immediately after Melville's first marker to stem any momentum the visitors might have generated.

Of course Shymko said the rivalry with Melville also made the games big.

"I watched it (the rivalry) growing up," he said adding in front of large crowds players certainly feel the emotion of the games.

Terrier head coach Trent Cassan said he was happy to see Shymko come away with three straight wins when called upon.

"He made some big saves, especially in the second period tonight (Saturday)," he said.

The trio of games is good experience for Shymko heading to the playoffs, said Cassan, adding the team has "full confidence," in both their goaltenders

The pair of wins gave Yorkton the edge for this year's Park Jewellery Cup. Cassan said the Cup win is most gratifying from the perspective winning it means the team played well in key games against their rivals.

The win Friday was a key.
"We showed some character to comeback," said Cassan, adding the team also showed they weren't satisfied with one win on the weekend, coming out strong Saturday to get the back-to-back victories.

Win over North Stars
Last Tuesday (Feb. 1), the Terriers hosted North Battleford, and in spite of leading the game 5-3 after 40-minutes, the home team needed overtime to record an eventual 6-5 win.

Jeremy Boyer was the OT hero for Yorkton, with his second of the night. Nathan Murray, Craig Eisenhut, Brent Struble and Jeremy Johnson added the singles.

Shymko had the win in the Terrier nets facing 30-shots. Keith Grondin was his nemesis on the night, scoring four straight for the Stars.

Shymko was thrown into the breech when Devin Peters was a last minute scratch after a practice injury. Peters did not dress in the three games this week.
