The Yorkton United U18/16 Girls soccer participated in the Saskatchewan Soccer Provincial Championships in Lloydminster July 1-3.
The first game of the round robin was against Swift Current United.
This was a tightly contested battle with Yorkton winning 1-0 on a goal by Kendra Varjassy with an assist to Mia Cottenie.
Ashley Schrader picked up the shutout.
The second game of the championship was against Moose Jaw Excelior.
This game ended in a 1-1 tie with Darrian Desjarlais scoring the goal assisted by Kendra Varjassy.
The third and final round robin game was against Saskatoon Eastside Novas.
Yorkton scored early and often and cruised to a 7-0 victory, giving Yorkton a place in the gold medal game.
Cassie Abel-Douglas netted the hat trick with Kendra Varjassy adding 2 goals and 2 assists, with both Roma Zulyniak and Allison Berge adding a goal and an assist each and Kathryn Blommaert adding an assist.
Ashley Schrader recorded her second shutout of the Championship.
The Provincial Championship game was a rematch between Yorkton United and Swift Current United.
This time Swift Current came out with a hard fought 3-0 victory and Yorkton claiming the silver medal.
This wraps up another fine season for the Yorkton United U18/16 Girls.
