Yorkton’s Kade Johnson is the 2016 U19 Saskatchewan Junior Men’s Champion.
Johnson, who plays out of the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course raised the trophy July 20 at the Par-72 Legends Golf Club in Warman after posting rounds of 73, 71 and 76 for a 220 (+4) total.
In the final round, scores ballooned as the golfers faced swirling high winds. Saskatoon’s Roman Timmerman and Kipling’s Carson Harcourt gained a stroke on Johnson by shooting 75—which were among the low rounds of the day—but Johnson, who led by three going into the last day, held on to win it with his 76.
All three players will represent Team Saskatchewan at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship in St. John’s, Newfoundland in August.
The only other Yorkton golfer in the tournament, Stephen Oleskiw, failed to make the cut shooting 91 and 89 in the first two rounds.
In the Junior Women’s Championship Yorkton’s Ella Kozak finished seventh in a field of eight with rounds of 113, 128 and 125.
Melville’s Chloe Sies was the women’s champion with two-hole playoff victory over Kayla Sawchuk of Prince Albert. Both girls finished at 252 (+36).
No Yorkton golfers competed in the Junior Men’s U15/U13 division
